50th Year Jubilee – Another Refutation
Hi Daniel,
Working my way through your Joshua studies. Good work. One stick in my craw. . . in Joshua 6:4-5 we see the instructions for the march and the SHOUT, which is the key to the miracle of the wall coming down, “And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.” Then in Joshua 6:15-16, we see the actual event happen, “But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. 16And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city!” Daniel, notice that there was NOT an eighth blowing of any trumpet, which would be necessary to get to your 50th count. And, of course, if the seven priests had blown an eighth time, you would have had 56 blasts of the trumpets, not 50, on the 7th day. According to verse 16, the long blast that the people heard occurred the seventh time (the 7th blast), perfectly in accordance with the instructions in verse 4. To have a 50th blast, or Jubilee blast, you would have had to have one priest blow one trumpet for that long blast. Verse 16 just does not show that happening. The 49th year and the Jubilee year are one and the same year, according to all the Scriptures and historical evidence. Nice try though.
According to the written Word in Leviticus 23 and 25, technically, the year Josh and the gang crossed the Jordan River was the 1st year of the first Jubilee Cycle, not the 49th or the 50th year. Lev. 25:1, “When. . .” But, if you go with the Creation of Adam year as the 1st year of the first Jubilee, then Josh’s first year in the Land may have been a Jubilee. There are many chronologists who hold that view, since the Torah is the eternal Word, and Moses and Joshua were just writing down Yahweh’s eternal principles.
Actually, Joshua 6 is more solid evidence for the 49th year Jubilee. Thanks for pointing it out.
Love ya brother,
