Yahovah’s Feasts in the New Testament – Part 1 – Sabbath

YAHOVAH’S FEASTS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

PART 1

SABBATH

In this series of posts, we’re going to briefly list Yahovah’s biblical Feasts, show the commandment in the Old Testament, then list New Testament scriptures that show Yeshua HaMashiach, the apostles, or the church observing these eternal Feasts of Yahovah.

Leviticus 23:1-4, “And Yahovah spoke to Moses, saying, 2Speak to the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them, The set feasts of Yahovah which you shall proclaim as holy gatherings, shall be these: These are My appointed feasts: 3Work is to be done six days, and on the seventh day shall be a Sabbath of rest, a holy gathering; you shall do no work; it is a Sabbath to Yahovah in all your dwellings. 4These are appointed times of Yahovah, holy gatherings which you shall proclaim in their appointed seasons:”

Examples of Sabbath observance in the New Testament:

Luke 4:16, “And He came to Nazareth where He was brought up. And as was His custom, He went in on the day of the Sabbath, into the synagogue, and He stood up to read.”

Matthew 12:1-13, “At that time on the Sabbath, Yeshua went through the grain fields. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. 2But seeing, the Pharisees said to Him, Behold, your disciples are doing what it is not lawful to do on the Sabbath. 3But He said to them, Have you not read what David did, when he and those with him hungered? 4How he entered into the house of Yahovah, and he ate the bread of the altar of Yahovah, which it was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those with him, but for the priests only? 5Or have you not read in the Torah that on the Sabbaths the priests in the sanctuary disregard the Sabbath and are without blame? 6But I say to you, One greater than the sanctuary is here. 7But if you had known what this is, “I desire mercy and not sacrifice,” you would not have condemned those without blame. 8For the Son of Man is also Master of the Sabbath. 9And moving from there, He came into their synagogue. 10And, behold, a man having a withered hand was there. And they asked Him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbaths? (That they might accuse Him). 11But He said to them, What man of you who will have one sheep, and if this one fall into a pit on the day of the Sabbath, that he would not grab it and raise it out? 12How much more, then, does a man excel a sheep! So that it is lawful to do well on the Sabbaths. 13Then He said to the man, Stretch out your hand! And he stretched out. And it was restored sound as the other.”

Mark 6:2-6, “And a Sabbath having come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And hearing, many were amazed, saying, From where came these things to this One? And what is the wisdom given to Him that even such works of power come about through His hands? 3Is this One not the carpenter, the son of Mariam, and brother of Jacob and Joseph and Judas and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us? And they were offended in Him. 4And Yeshua said to them, There is no prophet who is dishonored except in his own city and with his own kinsmen and in his own house. 5And He could do no work of power there, except He performed healing on a few infirm ones laying on His hands. 6And He marveled because of their unbelief. And He went around the villages in a circuit, teaching.”

John 7:21-24, “Yeshua answered and said to them, I did one work, and you all marvel. 22Because of this Moses gave circumcision to you. It was not because it was from him, Moses, but from the patriarchs, yet you circumcise a man on the day of the Sabbath. 23If a man is circumcised on the day of the Sabbath so that the Torah of Moses should not be loosed, why do you murmur against me because the man who was created whole, I have made whole on this day of the Sabbath? 24Do not be judging by hypocrisy, rather judge with a just judgment.”

Acts 13:14, 42-44, “But going through from Perga, they came to Antioch-Pisidia, and going into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbath, they sat down. . . 42But the Jews having gone out of the synagogue, the gentiles begged that these words be spoken to them on the next Sabbath. 43And the synagogue being broken up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who speaking to them persuaded them to continue in the grace of Yahovah. 44And in the coming Sabbath, almost all the city was gathered to hear the Word of Yahovah.”

Acts 16:13, “And we went out on the day of the Sabbath without the gate of the city to the bank of the river, because there was seen a house of prayer; and sitting down we spoke with the women who came together there.”

Acts 18:4, “And he [Paul] reasoned in the synagogue on every Sabbath persuading both Jews and the pagans.”

Colossians 2:16-17, “Therefore do not let anyone (outside the body) judge among you about eating, or drinking, or in how you keep the feast days, or the new moon, or the Sabbath day, 17which remain shadows of coming things, but the body of Messiah.”

Hebrews 4:1-11, “Therefore, Let us fear, lest while the promise of entering into his rest remains, lest some among you find that they are falling short from entering. 2For, indeed, we have had the good news preached to us, even as they also; but the Word did not profit those hearing it, not having been mixed with faith in the ones who heard. 3For we who have believed, will enter into the rest, even as He said, “As I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter into My rest,” for behold, the works of Yahovah were from the very foundation of the world. 4For He has spoken concerning the Sabbath, “And Yahovah rested from all His works on the seventh day.” 5And here again he said, “They shall not enter into My rest.” 6There was a chance for some to enter into it, but they to whom the good news was first preached did not enter in on account of disobedience, 7He again marks out a certain day, saying in David, Today after so long a time, according as He has said, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” 8For if Joshua the son of Nun had given them rest, then He would not have afterward spoken about another day. 9It is therefore the duty of the people of Yahovah to keep the Sabbath. 10For he who has entered into His rest, has also ceased from his own works, as Yahovah did from His. 11Therefore, let us strive to enter into that rest, that not anyone fall in the same example of disobedience.”
